Limit switches are often used in a variety of machines and industries, such as heavy-duty machines, marine industry machines, construction sites, construction cranes, and so much more. These limit switches in an EOT crane limit or stop the movement of those cranes by cutting off the control supply when the limit switch detects that the crane is moving past the prescribed movement limit.
The main objective of a limit switch in EOT cranes and other industrial and marine machinery is to prevent the damage and fatal accidents of any equipment nearby, and at the same time, the limit switch can prevent injuries to the labourers who work in the area by reducing and limiting the movement of the cranes that are working overhead.
In a factory or industrial environment, a limit switch is very crucial so as to monitor and regulate the movement of the cranes in a busy working environment. As these limit switches regulate the movement of the cranes to prevent fatal accidents, they tend to wear out and depreciate in the lapse of time. So it is ideal for checking and monitoring the working condition of these limit switches almost every day.

Different Types of Limit Switches for an EOT Crane
There are many varieties of limit switches that could be suitable for different applications. Some of them are
Rotary Limit Switches: These rotary limit switches are attached directly to the gearbox of the machine or motor with the help of a coupling and a shaft. The movement of the gearbox of the motor helps in rotating the shaft of the limit switch. Rotary type limit switches are most commonly used in Hoist applications.
Lever Type Limit Switches: Lever type limit switches are fixed and mounted at a position where the moving equipment needs to be stopped. They are often used when you have to stop a linear movement of the machinery. These lever switches are easier to reset as they automatically reset themselves when the lever turns to the initial position. This automated resetting is due to the spring action of the motor and lever.
Gravity Limit Switches: The basic principle of weight balance is used for the working of gravity limit switches. In this type of limit switch, one counterweight is fixed at one side of the lever and the other one is a suspended weight that is tied at the other end of the lever. The gravity limit switches work with the help of gravity, hence they are often used for vertical movements such as crane hoists, electric hoists, main hoists of EOT cranes, auxiliary hoists of EOT cranes, hoist machinery and so on.
Applications of the EOT Limit Switch
Most EOT limit switches, such as rotary limit switches, gravity limit switches, and lever type limit switches, are often used in factories and other industrial cranes like Hoists machinery, Overhead Cranes, Electrical Hoists, Jib Cranes, Single Girder EOT Cranes, Double Girder EOT Cranes, RTG Cranes, Traverser Cranes, and so on.
